We want to make sure your visits to your Tucson gym are productive, meaningful, safe, and fun. Here are some things to keep in mind to make sure you are getting the most out of your workout in a safe way:
Just a few tips to help you to work out safely and increase the effectiveness and enjoyability of your workouts, at one of our many Phoenix and Tucson fitness gyms, or while you are busy traveling elsewhere:
- Begin every workout with a five-minute, moderate cardio activity (jogging, elliptical, etc.)
- Set your goals before going into the fitness gym, and to avoid injury, don’t overdo it. With your GymFusion membership, we have a personal training fitness program that can help you establish and stick to your personal fitness goals. Have a plan for your workout.
- Learn how to monitor your intensity. If you can’t invest in a quality heart rate monitor, at least monitor your heart rate. Heart rate is widely accepted as a good method for measuring intensity during aerobic activities. Exercise that doesn’t raise your heart rate to a certain level and keep it there for 20 minutes won’t contribute significantly to cardiovascular fitness. Here is a good way to calculate your target heart rate:
- Target Heart Rate = (220 - age) x 50% (lower limit) -and- Target Heart Rate = (220 - age) x 75% (upper limit)
- (220 - age) is actually an estimate of your maximum heart rate. In other words, your target heart rate during exercise should be about 50 percent to 75 percent of your maximum heart rate.
- Calculate both the lower and upper limit to find your target heart rate zone. Your target heart rate falls within this zone. When your heart rate reaches a value within this zone during exercise, it means you have achieved a level of activity that contributes to your cardiovascular fitness.
- Use good form. Don’t swing your weights; if you have to do this, the weight is too heavy. Don’t drop your weights. Don’t lock your joints. Have good posture.
